Ancestors in Avondale

Listed here are the Ancestors of Avondale. All residents of Hartwick Township, Osceola County, Michigan.

Here is a family tree of most of the residents of Avondale and Hartwick Township, Osceola County, Michigan from 1870 through 1930. Included in this database are all of the census records between 1870 and 1930; Headstone Photographs, and a listing of everyone buried in Cherry Valley Cemetery; and as much of the ancestory of these amazing pioneers as we could glean from the internet.

Some of the work presented here is ours, of course, but the greater credit goes to all of the individuals who have researched their own families and so gratiously shared their efforts, either via the internet, email, or postal service. If you use the information presented here please feel free to do so, but keeping with the same spirit as it is given, please do not charge anyone for it.

Bear in mind that this is a work in progress. Where possible, and when time and resources have been available, the information and sources have been verified. These are listed in the database. You should consider all other information suspect, or at least in need of verification. The census information is sometimes difficult to read. Where we were unable to interpret the writing, or were flat out guessing at the content, you will find it noted with the characters (sp).

We welcome your constructive criticizm, corrections, additional information, and comments. Even if you just want to say (Hey!), please feel free to contact us. Our Email and Postal addresses are listed at the bottom of this page.

Credits

Several People have helped or contributed to the creation and content of this web page. Among the many, there are a few that I would like to single out.

Roger and Carol Peel, my brother and brat in law, contributed a lot of time and energy to the Cherry Valley Cemetery photos. Among other things, my brother taught me the value of carrying extra batteries for your digital camera. If not for Rog, it would have taken two trips to complete the project. They have also spent a considerable amount of time combing through the Evart, and Reed City Libraries for pictures, obituaries, and other articles of interest. This is only one example of why I'll always owe them a debt of gratitude. THANKS!

Robin, My wife and best friend, who, fortunatly for me, is nearly as obsessed with genealogy as I. Who has willingly traveled with me to exotic locations, such as cemeteries, libraries, museums, and flea markets. And who doesn't mind seeing me with my nose poked into a computer monitor daily. THANKS!

Ted Cutler, Gary Jackson, Jay Shook, Patsy Kintopf, and Wendy Peel. My Peel Cousins, have all given me LOTS of valuable information about their families and the Peel's who lived and prospered in Avondale. I can't say it enough, THANKS!

Dr. Sally Littleton, who is related to the Mowatt's, Leeman's and McKinley's of Hartwick Township. A special thanks goes to her for sharing her family tree and, most of all, patiently reading and responding to my rambling, and sometimes philosophical e-mails. Isn't it great to find someone who shares your obsession? THANKS! and, Thanks for listening.

Tamara Isanhart, one of my new found cousins, who helped me solve the mystery of Alberta (Isanhart) Peel. And, has shared the Isanhart family tree with me. THANKS!

Vivian Brandal, who along with her husband is related to the Brandals, Sawyers, Mowat's, Peel's, Leeman's and McKinley's of Hartwick.. And has the great fortune of living in the house that was built by Daniel Brandal, right there in Hartwick Township. THANKS!

Neva McGuire, who has provided me with a considerable amount of valuable information about the Courtright family. And, if you can believe all of the internet information, is my 3rd cousin 7 times removed.. either that or my 3rd cousin 9 or 10 times removed... one of those. Just goes to show you if you go back far enough we are all related. THANKS!

Jack Hawker, who has provided a lot of information about the Sawyers and Johnson families. THANKS!
You can visit Jack's own web site at http://www.geocities.com/JackHawker/

I know there are more people whom I should thank. Please don't be offended if I've left you off from this list. Hey, we all have our Senior Moments, and If I've forgotten, it's because my mind is full of facts from 150 years ago. THANKS!
